In their second match in as many weeks, Nick Kyrgios of Australia again dominated the number two seed, and defending champion, Novak Djokovic of Serbia in a raw show of power, unpredictability, and focus. After meeting for the first time in Acapulco where Kyrgios served 24 aces, Djokovic looked to neutralize the powerful server in the desert of California by guessing on serve location and looking to show why he is called the best serve returner in tennis history. All of Djokovic's plans were quickly ruined when he lost serve in the very first game, and forced to play from behind. Kyrgios averaged almost 193 mph on second serves, giving Djokovic zero opportunities to break serve, and nick showed surprising patience on longer rallies and a powerful down the line backhand. To get to set point, Kyrgios made an amazing get of a Djokovic drop volley and passed his opponent with a cross court backhand from below the net. An ace won the set and Djokovic smashed his racquet on the hardcourt.  The second set displayed new focus by Djokovic with easy holds of serve and deeper and faster groundstrokes. Kyrgios had a chance to break at 5-5, but Djokovic hit a volley winner and followed that with two forehand winners to win the game. Two off speed, high kicking serves out wide forced the set to go to tiebreak.  krygios struck first gaining the mini break, and then he commenced to hit a 227 mph service bomb and another service winner to take a 3-0 lead. Djokovic then quickly won his two serves, looking to get at least one of Kyrgios' next two serves. Kyrgios answered with a second serve ace, which looked to be a punctuation mark on the match if Djokovic couldn't get this next point. A service winner left a dejected, irritated champion who then hit a forehand in the net, giving the 21-year-old three match points. Djokovic saved one, but Kyrgios did what he does best, and hit a big serve to take the match and look for a second meeting with roger Federer in the quarter finals of the BNP Paribas Open. Roger is looking to avenge losing in three tough tiebreak sets in Madrid last year. Kyrgios appears to have shown an increase in focus and consistency since his late 2016 suspension by ATP for his antics in shanghai. Hopefully this amazing tennis talent will continue his improvement.
