Dimitrov and Wawrinka Reunite For Doubles
For the fourth time in four years Grigor Dimitrov and Stan Wawrinka have teamed up to play doubles, and they played their first tournament together in 2017 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA. In the first round they met the formidable and experienced team of Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi. On a blistering spring day of 95 degrees in the desert, the afternoon start time helped the big serve of Mirnyi, and team Huey Mirnyi won the first set 6-4 with a single break of serve. Set two stayed on serve until Dimitrov and Wawrinka broke Huey's serve in the eighth game and Wawrinka held to win set two 6-3. A ten-point tiebreak replaced a deciding third set, and the experienced Huey Mirnyi team dominated 10-3 with skillful poaching and consistent first serves to claim the first round match. Dimitrov and Wawrinka are now 2 and 2 overall as partners but they will now focus on singles on Sunday.
